38” x39” x2” Recycled Plastic Packages, Press Board, Thread 2024
Many of my recent artworks utilize discarded product packaging as their primary medium to highlight the severity of environmental pollution and the climate crisis stemming from excessive consumerism. BLACK PINK’s reinterpretation of traditional Korean costumes – this is a Hanbok vest- constructed from sewn plastic and displayed in 3d to emphasize clothing shape. The title is lifted from a popular K-pop group, representing the nation’s rising global cultural status.
The works also reflect my concern over environmental degradation, including the unsustainable practices of the clothing industry, carbon emissions from waste , micro plastic pollution, and the resulting harm to nature.
